What lessons has DIY taught you? One of our key takeaways from arts and crafts would have to be resourcefulness: learning how to repurpose things and using whatever materials available to complete a project. Last week, we got invited to a private online workshop with Mondelez Philippines employees for their Purpose Day. They shared their current recycling efforts as well as long-term projects to help reduce waste. To encourage everyone to recycle from their home, because every small act counts, we came up with three fun and easy DIY ideas using Cadbury Lickables packaging: pots and planters, desk and drawer organizers, and sungka. Scroll down for the full step by step tutorials.

DIY Mini Pots and Planters

Turn Cadbury Lickables containers into cute planters for the home or into propagation/germination pots for your mini farm at home (using seeds or clippings). Encourage recycling and knowledge about urban farming and practical science.

Tools and Materials

  • Cadbury Lickables containers
  • cutting template
  • vinyl stickers
  • yarns
  • glue gun
  • glue sticks

Step 1: Wash and clean your Cadbury Lickables containers.

Step 2: Decorate the containers with any of the following ways:

  • Cut your vinyl stickers to size using the template and carefully stick them to the body.
  • Add a small amount of glue and wrap a yarn around it. Add glue to the ends to secure.

Step 3: Add soil and plant your seeds.

Step 4: (Optional) Attach the cover to the bottom part to create a goblet-like planter.

Desk and Drawer Organizers

Turn Cadbury Lickables containers into desk organizers for the office (paper clips and pins) or for your vanity area (rings, necklaces and earings). It’s an affordable and creative way to get organized.

Tools and Materials

  • Cadbury Lickables containers
  • cutting template
  • vinyl stickers
  • yarns
  • glue gun
  • glue sticks

Step 1: Wash and clean your Cadbury Lickables containers.

Step 2: Decorate the containers with any of the following ways:

  • Cut your vinyl stickers to size using the template and carefully stick them to the body.
  • Add a small amount of glue and wrap a yarn around it. Add glue to the ends to secure.

Step 3: Use them as catch-all trays for your accessories (rings, bracelets) or as desk and drawer organisers for office and school supplies like pushpins and paper clips.

Step 4: (Optional) Glue them onto a piece of cardboard (or a recycled plastic tray) for more stability.

DIY Sungka

Turn Cadbury Lickables containers into a fun and classic Filipino game! This is a fun bonding activity among family and friends and can even be used as a counting activity for kids.

Tools and Materials

  • 14 Cadbury Lickables containers
  • 2 Recycled takeout containers (round is preferred)
  • paint & paint brush
  • yarn, glue gun & glue stick
  • vinyl stickers
  • 98 marbles/wooden beads/sigay

Step 1: Wash and clean your Cadbury Lickables containers.

Step 2: Decorate the containers with any of the following ways:

  • Cut your vinyl stickers to size using the template and carefully stick them to the body.
  • Add a small amount of glue and wrap a yarn around it. Add glue to the ends to secure.
  • Paint the containers using chalk or latex/spray paint.

Step 3: Create 2 rows of 7 Cadbury Lickables containers.

Step 4: Glue them together where the sides touch.

Step 5: Add a larger (takeout) container on either side and glue them in place.

Step 6: You may also glue the containers to a base such as a cardboard box or recycled plastic tray if available. This is optional.

Step 7: Add 7 marbles/wooden beads/sigay on each of the 14 Cadbury Lickables containers and we’re ready to play!
