Then and Now

I was cleaning my wallet the other day & I saw a picture of me when I was five years old.  “So young, radiant and full of dreams”, I thought.  Beside it was my driver’s license.  There was a photo of me there that looked like someone who is so tired of life.  It was someone who lacks sleep and badly needs a pint of heavy duty conditioner and a hair brush!  I can also sense lots of self-loathing in the eyes of that girl who’s staring back at me!

Then & Now Not Wanting to Grow Up

When I was younger, I really hated the fact that I had to sleep at 8-ish.  I’m going to miss out on all the other shows and sleeping then, especially the after lunch siesta, felt like such a chore.  Now, I always crave for a decent 8-hour sleep.  I can’t sleep or I tend to wake up early on weekends because I always feel guilty that I should be working instead of resting.  (I hope that someday, if I ever suffer from a workaholic-related disease, my doctor won’t get to read this. *Yikes* )

I also remember wanting to be an adult just so that I can finally afford to buy all the art materials & stationery!  Now, I’ve practically loaded our tiny house with colorful books and filled the shelves to the brim with art materials.  But, when I see a child seated at a restaurant feeling so entitled to all the joys the world has to offer, I envy them quite a bit.  They don’t even have to worry about anything…well, at least not bills nor deadlines.  Not that I’m enjoying my work.  I actually do.

Looking at all these then and now situations, it’s funny to see that we always want what we can’t have…especially those that money can’t buy!

Hope you remember that what’s important is that you get to enjoy today! 🙂

XOXO,

Tipsy ❤

  1. aaawww….i can relate. i miss running as fast as my legs can carry me and not be so out of breath afterwards…now when i jog, i wheeze. haha! 😀 kidding aside, nakaka-trip-down-memory-lane ang post mo. 🙂

    1. Aww..Thank you. I didn’t know it had that effect. Thanks to your comment, I just realized, I could go on & on about the interesting things we did as kids! Something in my rib cage would hurt when I ran too fast as well or if I had to chase or be chased someone too. Hahaha.

  2. I just visited my mom’s hometown where I spent my childhood summers playing all day. Basically I never wished I’d grow up, because when I was there, it felt heaven.

Lola will always give me money so I can buy the cheap sweets from the Sari-sari store. I’d play with lots of my friends and cousins that I meet once a year, and spend 2 months with, almost 24/7.

I used to go from houses to houses, each family welcoming me to eat at their place, play at their house, and me and my friends would go on these endless adventures and games that lasts for 2 mos.

Kaka-reminisced lang namin nung mga pinsan ko to, and we wished we were back during those days. We weren’t afraid to get dirty, we all go in the same mishaps, get all cuts and bruises, harvest all kinds of flowers for our lutu-lutuan, our endless quest for the perfect pamato, the cheap good ice cream every afternoon, hide and seek till our parents would scream their heads off to call us for dinner, fashion shows using any textile sheets we can find, and basically just have the best times of our lives.

    Awww shet, kakamiss.

    1. Wow! That made me miss an awful loooooot about my childhood. We would search for the perfect stone for piko & we wouldn’t stop playing until it was time for dinner or until we would hear the Little Mermaid Theme Song (a.k.a. Okay Ka Fairy Ko intro tune) in the streets. Those trips to the sari-sari stores were always the best and gah….softdrinks & junk food was super super cheap back then! Haha 🙂

    1. Ahahahahaha 🙂 I don’t even want to know how candle tastes like but this is one for the books. Haha. I was also had my moments with the can of sardines on top of the stove & the flat iron. I wouldn’t believe them when they told me it was hot so I touched it with my bare fingers 😛

  4. I miss riding really thrilling rollercoasters and playing outside and eating aratiles (tama ba spelling?) straight from the tree. Now that I have children, I think I became a scaredy-cat and I’m scared of germs na.

    1. I ate those too! So sweet & yummy. Yeah..What was I thinking? I ate them off the tree…I didn’t even know if my hands were clean. Haha.

I miss getting lots of Christmas presents! Now that I am older, my parents don’t give me presents anymore
