I’m trying to recall when my curiosity for cutting ever started. I remember when I was 5, and I was using a super blunt pair of scissors to cut my bangs. My mother was really upset to find out what I did. Hahahahahaha. I still think it’s funny to this day. I tried hiding under my parent’s bed in the hopes that I can hide what I was doing too. Nope.
Fast forward to grade school, I’d always volunteer for bulletin boards and cramming eventually got so bad to the point that I didn’t have time to draw on my art paper anymore. I just had to draw with my pair of scissors if I had to create letters for our acrostics or whatever it was that needed to be done.
Throughout high school, I still continued doing bulletin boards to the point that when I got to college, my friends and I were joking that we were from the “Bulletin Board Org” because we would volunteer to decorate stuff in any organization we were in. It was as if we were just looking for ways to create things.
(Sorry guys. Why am I narrating my life?)
Aside from cutting, I noticed that consistently, when doing digital lay-outs, I always start creating elements before doing lay-outs. I realized that I do the same with traditional media and so this is the brand of arts and crafts and paper cuts that I have come to gravitate towards.
In many of our art workshops, people would often ask and wonder how our small team is able to cut hundreds and thousands of intricate pieces and designs for the participants. Our secret? We have a new teammate!
Meet the Cricut Explore Air 2 aka our extra-hardworking and precise ✂️ teammate. (It’s read as “cricket”. Yes, as in the insect. If you look closely at the logo, you’d notice the subtle reference.)
It comes with an online console where you can turn your vector graphics and other design files into cuts. This makes the paper cuts more accurate and consistent in terms of size. Plus, you can make lots of them in one sitting really fast.
Below is a quick video of us preparing for one of our craft workshops using our Cricut Explore Air 2.
